Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
Job description:
The Exponent’s Business Development Director is a full-time salaried position reporting to the publisher. The ideal candidate will expand revenue sources for The Exponent, including connecting with existing and new clients in traditional advertising sales, and developing new, viable revenue streams for the organization, particularly in digital and social media. This person will be dedicated to helping clients reach their marketing and advertising goals and developing strong client/community relationships. Previous proven success in advertising sales with a focus on digital and web advertising programs is ideal, while the ability to juggle multiple projects across several platforms is a must.
The career includes (but is not limited to):
- Meeting and ideally exceeding organization’s revenue goals through advertising sales and business development partnerships and programs.
- Developing new revenue streams for The Exponent, and new ways to generate revenue for existing products including print, digital, social media and marketing services.
- Developing innovative revenue streams that may also be outside the realm of selling products developed by The Exponent newsroom (such as events, other business investments, marketing services, non-profit fundraising, alumni relations, grant application, etc.)
- Maintaining and nurturing healthy client and community relationships locally, state-wide and nationally through in-person and virtual meetings, along with email and other advertising campaigns.
- Supervising any sales, marketing staff and audience engagement staff.
- Engaging the Purdue University student population to produce advertising content and business development work according to The Exponent’s mission.
- Developing innovative partnerships with Purdue faculty, staff, students, classes and student organizations that add mutual experiential learning value to all constituents.
- Coordinating and hosting successful marketing events and special promotions, including housing and wellness fairs.
- Coordinating and attending community engagement activities and events such as Chamber of Commerce events, etc., to promote The Exponent mission, gain new clients and network.
- Proficient understanding use of the business aspects of Instagram, Facebook, X and other social sites to place ads on behalf of clients on Exponent social media channels and to promote services and programs.
- Proficient understanding and use of the organization’s content management and sales CRM systems, and proficient use of Google Ad Manager. Basic understanding of graphic design software.
- An unwavering commitment to supporting The Exponent’s not-for-profit mission as a student-led news media organization.
