This summer, the Haan Museum of Indiana Art invites you into a rarely seen side of one of Indiana’s most celebrated painters. Best known for the Indiana landscapes that made his name, T.C. Steele spent a lifetime chasing the light, and this exhibition gathers a collection of works seldom shown to the public. Inside his luminous world, we travel far beyond the familiar. We encounter the depth of the places Steele met on his journeys, scenes distinct from the Indiana vistas he is famous for. We step into a more intimate view of the family and patrons who filled his life, glimpsing the people, the fashions, and the interiors of his time. And throughout, we witness the painter at work, following his pursuit of light itself, the impressionist’s endless effort to capture a fleeting moment before it changed.
