Reliability - Facilities Engineer

Position Overview:

The Reliability-Facilities Engineer leads the implementation of reliability practices and evaluates new technology and ideas to continuously improve reliability and unscheduled equipment downtime. The Reliability- Facilities Engineer also, champions the facilities projects, implementation of reliability best practices and new ideas to continuously improve reliability. That includes the application and teaching of Reliability Centered Maintenance concepts, and effectively conducting training to advance the plant's overall knowledge of reliability.

Essential Duties:

  • Be a technical resource that provides and shares expertise on equipment, options to improve maintenance and operating practices, and opportunities to advance use of new technology.
  • Anticipate results to include reduced unscheduled downtime, reduced maintenance repair and replacement cost, improved equipment reliability and improved mean-time between failures. This includes championing life-cycle costing analysis for equipment selection, maintenance, and investment decisions
  • Coaches on the use of reliability improvement tools.
  • Works with the Areas to identify, evaluate, and implement reliability improvement opportunities through changes to operating procedures, maintenance procedures, and equipment upgrades.
  • Analyzes equipment history to identify reliability improvement opportunities.
  • Ensures consistent use of root cause analysis tools on all high-risk reliability incidents.
  • Develops and executes corrective actions to reduce equipment unplanned downtime
  • Ensure that all inspections, preventive measures, corrective actions are completed and documented for maintenance equipment.
  • Reviews and analyses existing predictive and preventive maintenance tasks and schedules to ensure optimal use of manpower and equipment
  • Implement systems to collect and analyze reliability data for cost effective improvements.
  • Develops and executes small capital projects including new and retrofit equipment installations.
  • Reviews and develops site technical specifications and procedures
  • Stay current of advances and improvements in technology and techniques
  • Designs below-the-hook lifting devices and related material handling equipment
  • Creates, plans, and performs engineering design, development and/or analysis tasks of moderate complexity for a project or may lead these activities for a small project. Ensures tasks meet cost, quality, schedule, and performance requirements.
  • Manages assigned facility projects, applies knowledge of facility design to solve moderately complex and clearly defined engineering problems. Selects the best methods or process from among several existing alternatives.
  • Performs technical analysis, testing, calculations, and evaluation of results to solve moderately complex engineering problems using specialized equipment and/or by computer programs. Provides input to project leaders for the development of project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Analyzes and recommends methods for improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact of plant operations.
  • Would work on cost savings and continuous improvements projects.
  • Flexible to support operational operations plans

Education and Experience:

  • BS in Engineering or Technology, preferable mechanical or electrical engineering
  • A Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE), or Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) is highly preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of maintenance, Facilities and reliability engineering experience is required, preferably in unionized environment

Knowledge & Skills Summary:

  • AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Navisworks, SolidWorks experience preferred
  • Ability to work with people in an industrial environment
  • Project management experience is preferred
  • Thorough understanding of reliability methodologies including Equipment Criticality Risk Ranking, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, Reliability Centered Maintenance, Root Cause Failure Analysis, Risk Based Inspection, and Life Cycle Costing Analysis.
  • Must be able to train others and/or facilitate analysis using reliability methodologies. Individual must have familiarity with condition based and predictive technologies such as vibration, oil analysis, thermography, acoustic analysis, etc.
  • High energy level; comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day activities
  • Ability to establish credibility and be decisive, but be able to recognize and support the organization's preferences and priorities
