Probationary Firefighter / EMT

The successful candidate will have the desire and compassion to help others and to protect lives, property and the environment. Work is to be completed as an individual contributor to the firefighting team by responding to and fighting fires, delivering emergency medical care, taking part in ongoing training and participating in outreach events on the campus.

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year experience as an Emergency Medical Technician
  • A strong commitment to customer service and use of good judgement is essential
  • Possession of strong public relation skills are essential to this position
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills as well as computer skills
  • Must successfully complete the requirements for Mandatory Firefighter and Firefighter 1&2 through the Indiana Department of Homeland Security within twelve months of employment in order to be eligible for promotion to Firefighter 2
  • Will be required to obtain certification as a Hazardous Material Technician and Airport Firefighter within twenty-four months
  • Capable of physically and mentally performing all duties of a Firefighter/ Emergency Medical Technician
  • This position is subject to job hazards and working conditions associated with emergency response
  • Respiratory protection will require annual medical testing to assure physical fitness to use such equipment
  • Candidates must pass CPAT testing and a physical examination prior to an offer of employment
  • Must successfully complete the Purdue Fire Department Physical Abilities Test annually
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have a United States citizenship
  • A valid US driver’s license
  • State of Indiana Paramedic license
