Description
Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of enslavement in the United States. Abraham Lincoln issued his Emancipation Proclamation ending the enslavement of more than 3 million bondsman in the Confederate states on January 1, 1863.
The primary mission of this celebration is to highlight the people and organizations that value diversity and ascribe to the ideals of honoring and celebrating freedom. We strive to establish The Found as a center for racial/social justice, where all people are heard, honored, and respected regardless of their ethnicity, beliefs, or social/cultural practices.
To that end, our theme will be 'Juneteenth - Celebrate Freedom' and we will display and present examples of these ideals from the Greater Lafayette area. The featured areas will be demonstrations of History, Arts, Culture and Racial/Social Justice.
