Greater Lafayette Commerce’s Second-Chance Career Fair is designed to provide employment opportunities to individuals re-entering the workforce after being incarcerated or recovering from substance use disorder.
Increasingly, businesses across sectors are giving these individuals a chance at gainful employment and experiencing the benefits of embracing a second-chance workforce.
For instance, by tapping the talent of second-chance job-seekers, employers could potentially receive a Work Opportunity Tax Credit for business purposes. What’s more, adopting inclusive hiring practices could be the solution to finding skilled employees in a highly competitive job market.
Ready, Set, Go
“Ready, Set, Go,” the theme of the Second-Chance Career Fair, aims to prepare individuals for employment, provide them with career opportunities and support them on their career pathways. Employers may participate in one or all three “Ready, Set, Go,” categories of the career fair. Keep in mind, these are physical locations that will require staff presence at each location. Categories are broken down by “Ready,” Set,” Go” as follows:
Ready – Those participating in the “Ready” category will provide services such as resume assistance and interview preparation.
Set – Employers registered for the “Set” category will network with prospective candidates and hire qualified job-seekers. Companies in this section employ individuals with criminal records (including prior felonies) and members of the substance use recovery community.
Go – Finally, organizations in the “Go” category will assist in providing supportive services to individuals in attendance. These services include, but are not limited to:
- Energy
- Housing
- Health
- Substance use recovery
- Finance
- Transportation
Please note that a small $25 participation fee per category is associated with taking part in the career fair. For example, if you decide to participate in the “Set” and “Go” categories, your participation fee will be $50. Employers will be provided with one booth and two chairs per category.
Additional logistical details, such as setup, etc. will be provided and sent at a later date.
